Job Description
SRG are looking for a technical manager to join a high education institute based in London. As part of this role, you will be responsible for working with the Divisional Manager to support the maintenance of the LMCB building, research facilities and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead health and safety for the department, including statutory inspections, training, and documentation
- Manage the ACDP Category 2 virus lab facility and ensure regulatory compliance
- Oversee the maintenance and servicing of core laboratory equipment
- Manage laboratory infrastructure and space planning
- Lead a small technical team, including two Technicians and a Stores Officer
- Procure lab equipment and negotiate contracts for repairs and maintenance
- Liaise with Estates, Security, and UCL's central services as the primary point of contact
- Support sustainability initiatives in collaboration with the Green Team
Experience and Qualifications
- Qualification at Level 6: HND or bachelor degree in relevant subject or equivalent experience
- Experience of working in a biological science research laboratory
- Knowledge of health & safety issues relevant to working in a biological science laboratory environment
- Experience in use and maintenance of common items of laboratory equipment e.g. incubators, safety cabinets, centrifuges, autoclaves and cryobanks
- Experience of working with building maintenance staff and contractors
- Experience of supervising staff and in leading and managing a team
- Experience of management of Health and Safety in a laboratory environment
- An appropriate professional safety qualification (e.g. NEBOSH)
- Well organised and capable of prioritising and meeting deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - the ability to interact with others with and to liaise with a wide range of individuals
- Computer literacy, including experience of using a range of software packages (including Microsoft Office suite)
- Ability to work independently and with initiative
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to supervise and motivate other members of staff
