Payroll Officer

An exciting new opportunity for a detail-focused Payroll Officer to join our busy payroll team.

  • £20 per hour PAYE
  • 3-month contract - potentially ongoing
  • Full-time Hours
  • 36 weeks per hour

In this role, you will ensure the accurate and timely processing of employee pay, handle payroll queries, and maintain data across all areas of the payroll cycle. You will work closely with HR and recruitment teams to ensure starters, leavers, and changes are reflected correctly in the payroll.

In this role, you will:

  • Accurately calculate gross and net pay in line with statutory and contractual requirements

  • Ensure permanent and temporary payroll transactions are processed on time and errors are corrected

  • Provide clear and helpful advice to employees, managers and third parties on payroll matters, including income tax, NI, and statutory entitlements

  • Resolve payroll queries promptly

  • Maintain accurate employee records, including inputting new starter data and actioning changes to pay or personal details

  • Support the processing of overtime, allowances, deductions & pay adjustments

  • Work closely with recruitment and HR teams to ensure payroll accuracy for starters, movers and leavers

  • Assist in resolving overpayments and liaise with external parties regarding deductions and court orders

  • Help maintain compliance with pension scheme reporting

  • Contribute to system testing and process improvements during payroll software updates

We are looking for Payroll Officer with:

  • Experience using payroll systems and handling payroll data

  • The ability to carry out accurate payroll calculations and review complex pay records

  • An understanding of pension scheme membership rules and employer obligations

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reconciliation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and meet tight deadlines without compromising accuracy
