Role Overview: Technical Services Manager
As Technical Services Manager, you will lead the technical delivery function across multiple, high-complexity fit-out and refurbishment projects. You will bridge design intent and on-site execution, manage key MEP/technical packages, ensure compliance, and drive innovation and efficiency across the technical services team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the technical services team (engineers, designers, coordinators) through design, tender, and delivery phases
- Ensure technical excellence, compliance with standards, codes, and client requirements
- Oversee mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, power & lighting systems design and coordination
- Review and critique designs by external consultants and subcontractors
- Drive value engineering, constructability reviews, and integration between disciplines
- Monitor budget, risk, technical change control, quality, and site performance
- Champion sustainable design practices: low carbon design, circular economy, material reuse, energy efficiency
- Develop technical standards, methods, and protocols
- Liaise with clients, consultants, local authorities, and subcontractors as technical lead
- Provide technical mentoring, training, and development to staff
Essential
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services, or related engineering discipline
- Significant experience leading technical delivery in fit-out, refurbishment, or building services environment
- Strong understanding of MEP systems, design coordination, construction methods, and specification
- Proven track record managing multiple projects, interfacing with designers and contractors
- Experience in sustainable building practices, carbon reduction measures, and circular design
- Excellent communicator, able to translate technical detail for non-technical stakeholders
- Strong leadership, decision making, problem solving, and mentoring capability
Desirable
- Professional membership (CIBSE, IMechE, etc.)
- Prior involvement in high value heritage or listed building refurbishment
- Experience with BREEAM, WELL, or other sustainability certification regimes
- Previous exposure to ESG programmes, embodied carbon measurement, or circular design
