About the Role

Southwark Council is seeking an experienced Programme Manager to lead the delivery of our bold and innovative Streets for People programme. Based within the Environment, Sustainability and Leisure's (ES&L) Programme Management Office, you'll drive forward a transformational strategy that enhances resident's quality of life, tackles climate change, and reimagines how our streets are used across the borough.

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact through the development and implementation of nine Streetspace schemes, designed to improve accessibility, promote active travel, and increase green spaces in our communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the successful delivery of the Streets for People programme and related projects.

  • Translate strategic objectives into actionable and measurable delivery plans.

  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Oversee budgets, resources, risks, procurement, and governance processes.

  • Champion innovation and ensure the achievement of tangible benefits and outcomes.

About You

You will bring:

Qualifications & Knowledge

  • Educated to degree level or with substantial programme/change management experience.

  • PRINCE2/APM certified (or working towards), with strong knowledge of MSP and project methodologies.

  • Deep understanding of public sector transformation.

Experience

  • Full project lifecycle delivery, including business case development and benefits realisation.

  • Experience in the public sector or local government programmes.

  • Strong background in stakeholder engagement and strategic delivery.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent programme management, leadership, and analytical skills.

  • Strong communicator with the ability to simplify complex concepts.

  • Financial planning expertise with a results-driven mindset.

  • Skilled in negotiation and influencing at all levels.
