Project Director / Director of Project Management

Role Overview: 

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Project Director to work for our client at their facility in London, the role will provide strategic leadership, oversight, and direction across the full lifecycle of transformer and GIS projects.

The role will be involved from sales handover through design review, factory audits, installation, commissioning, and long-term maintenance, this is an exciting role that will ensures safe, timely, and compliant project delivery for key clients, including National Grid and Scottish Power, while driving excellence in execution, client satisfaction, and business growth.

As the senior point of contact, the Director will guide and mentor internal project managers, coordinate with contractors and partners, and represent the company to clients and stakeholders at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Oversight & Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of transformer and GIS projects, from design review through lifecycle maintenance.
  • Approve project plans, budgets, schedules, and progress reports.
  • Chair weekly project reviews to monitor risks, performance, and improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure projects meet safety, technical, commercial, and regulatory requirements.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the senior client-facing representative, maintaining strong relationships with National Grid, Scottish Power, and other key customers.
  • Lead client review meetings, ensuring all requirements are understood, agreed, and delivered.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, logistics providers, and installation contractors to resolve operational challenges.
  • Ensure client feedback is integrated into project delivery and future improvements.

Technical & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee and participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) and audits, ensuring compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Drive adherence to industry regulations, client standards, and company HSE policies.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across all projects.

Leadership & Internal Direction

  • Mentor and coach project managers and engineering teams, fostering professional growth.
  • Align project execution with business objectives and strategic growth plans.
  • Support the sales team during contract handover, ensuring smooth project mobilisation.
  • Strengthen collaboration across engineering, procurement, and operations functions.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Extensive experience delivering transformer and GIS installation, commissioning, and maintenance projects, ideally with DNOs.
  • Strong track record in end-to-end project delivery, including design review, FATs, installation, and lifecycle support.
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, suppliers, and logistics partners.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Professional certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2, APM) preferred.
