Are you an experienced youth support worker looking for a new role in education? Or are you seeking a role supporting children who have social, emotional and mental health needs?

Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for a youth support worker to join this supportive alternative school in London. This is a full time, long-term role starting in September 2025 for the full academic year and upon review there will be an opportunity to go permanent.

The School:

The school supports students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs who have been permanently excluded, allocated a place through SEN consultation or via the Securing Education Board on a short-term placement. A high number of pupils here also have an additional diagnosis of autism and/or ADHD. Class sizes are therefore smaller with up to six pupils per class and there is a high staff-to-pupil ratio so that children are given the correct support when needed across the school day.

As a youth support mentor you will be responsible for the below:

  • Managing behaviour and following the schools behaviour policy
  • Supporting students in class, small groups and on a 1:1 basis
  • Encouraging and promoting student engagement in learning activities
  • Contributing to support plans and strategies to meet the needs of each student
  • Collaborating with staff, parents/carers, and outside agencies
  • Monitoring and recording student progress and achievements

To join us and be successful in this role you will need:

  • Previous experience working with children who have SEMH needs
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Patience and resilience
  • An Enhanced DBS Disclosure, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) and professional reference checks
  • CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible
  • Legal right to work in the UK
