Long Term Futures is supporting a warm and inclusive primary provision in Haringey that is seeking a patient and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to work closely with a small group of high-needs pupils in Early Years. The role involves supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), most of whom are non-verbal, require some intimate care, and benefit from structured communication and interaction strategies.

About the Role

You will support a small group of pupils through a combination of 1:1 and small group work, with a focus on speech and language development and engagement. Your day-to-day will include:

  • Using Intensive Interaction and other speech and language strategies to develop communication.
  • Leading and supporting Bucket Time and sensory-based activities to build focus and participation.
  • Supporting daily routines and transitions with calm and consistent strategies.
  • Providing sensitive support with personal care when required.
  • Working collaboratively with the SENCo, therapists, and class teacher to track progress and adapt strategies.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience supporting young children with high needs ASC, ideally in an Early Years or Reception setting.
  • Understanding of non-verbal communication approaches and sensory regulation.
  • A calm, resilient, and compassionate approach with excellent patience.
  • Comfortable with personal care and supporting children's independence.
