SEN Teaching Assistant - Waltham Forest

The Role: SEN Teaching Assistant

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the SENCO and teaching staff to support students with a range of special educational needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, and SEMH. You'll play an active role in helping pupils engage with learning, while also building their confidence and independence.



Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with additional needs
  • Assist with planning and delivering targeted interventions
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and families
  • Contribute to restorative practice approaches and mentoring support
  • Track and share progress with the wider SEN team


Ideal Candidates

  • Have studied or worked in Psychology, Education, Youth Work, or a related field
  • Aspire to careers in teaching, SEN, educational psychology, or youth support
  • Are empathetic, proactive, and resilient
  • Have experience in mentoring, youth work, or restorative practice (desirable but not essential)


Requirements

  • A strong desire to support pupils with SEN in a school setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A current DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply)
