SEN Teaching Assistant Post 16

A specialist post 16 provision in SE11 is looking for a committed and confident SEN Teaching Assistant to support learners who have Autism, learning disabilities, communication needs and barriers around independence. The environment is warm, structured and supportive, with students benefiting from routine, emotional safety and clear guidance.

You will work closely with teachers and therapists to help learners engage in sessions, build life skills, manage anxieties and develop communication and social interaction. This role suits someone patient, proactive and able to maintain calm, consistent boundaries.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting post 16 students with Autism and complex learning needs
  • Assisting with communication, emotional regulation and independence skills
  • Providing one to one and small group support
  • Helping students access lessons, community activities and daily routines
  • Following support plans and working closely with the teaching team
  • Promoting a safe, positive and inclusive environment

Requirements

  • Experience working with young people who have SEN
  • Experience in a secondary school or post 16 setting
  • Confident supporting Autism, learning disabilities or challenging behaviour
  • Reliable, patient and able to build positive relationships
  • Able to commit to full time hours Monday to Friday
