About the Role

Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs and aspiring to develop a career in Special Educational Needs (SEN)? We are seeking an Aspiring SEN Practitioner to join a friendly and supportive primary school in Lambeth. You will work alongside experienced staff to support pupils with SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other high needs, helping them access the curriculum, develop social and emotional skills, and thrive in a structured learning environment.
This role is perfect for someone eager to gain hands-on SEN experience, develop their skills, and build a career in inclusive education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with SEN to access classroom activities and learning tasks.
  • Assist with 1:1 or small group interventions under the guidance of the class teacher or SENCO.
  • Help pupils develop communication, social, and emotional regulation skills.
  • Support positive behaviour management and help implement strategies from individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Work closely with teachers, LSAs, and the SENCO to ensure consistent support.
  • Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and observations.
Candidate Requirements

Essential:
  • A genuine interest in developing a career supporting children with SEN.
  • Some experience (paid, voluntary, or placement) working with children is preferred.
  • Empathy, patience, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Enthusiasm to learn and participate in training opportunities.
Desirable:
  • Basic understanding of Autism, SEN, or related strategies.
  • Experience with visual supports, sensory strategies, or communication aids.
  • Level 2/3 TA qualification or willingness to work towards one.
