Assessment & Diagnosis
Carry out detailed speech, language, and swallowing assessments using standardised and informal tools.
Develop individualised treatment and care plans based on clinical findings.
Therapeutic Intervention
Provide direct therapy to children and/or adults with speech, language, communication, and swallowing needs.
Adapt therapy approaches to suit client needs, cultural context, and developmental stage.
Support families, carers, and staff with strategies to aid communication.
Collaboration & Training
Work closely with teachers, doctors, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other health or education professionals.
Deliver training to colleagues, carers, and staff on communication strategies.
Record Keeping & Reporting
Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical notes in line with professional and legal requirements.
Produce clear written reports and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or equivalent documents.
Professional Standards
Adhere to HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) and RCSLT (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists) standards of practice.
Participate in regular supervision, CPD activities, and service development.
Essential Requirements
Degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
HCPC registration.
Membership (or eligibility for membership) with RCSLT.
Knowledge of a broad range of speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Ability to manage a caseload and work flexibly across different settings.
Desirable Requirements
Experience working in [specific setting - e.g., paediatrics, adult neuro, schools, hospitals, community services].
Postgraduate training in specialist therapy approaches (e.g., Makaton, PECS, dysphagia training).
Knowledge of assistive and augmentative communication (AAC) systems.
Evidence of service development or research involvement.
