Quantity Surveyor - Environment & Marine

Are you a dynamic and adaptable Quantity Surveyor with a passion for the Environment, Rivers, Ports & Marine sector? Do you thrive in a client-facing role where your commercial acumen, organisational skills, and relationship-building abilities can shine across multiple projects?

We are seeking a talented Quantity Surveyor to join a dynamic and forward-thinking consultancy. In this exciting role, you will be working closely with prestigious Tier 1 contractor clients, providing expert commercial support on a diverse range of environmental and marine infrastructure projects. You will also have the opportunity to manage commercial aspects for projects across other civil engineering sectors as required.

This is more than just a traditional QS role; you'll be a key interface with clients, requiring not only strong technical QS skills but also the charisma and commercial awareness to foster excellent working relationships. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously will be key to your success.

What you'll be doing:

  • Undertaking a full range of quantity surveying duties, including cost estimating, cost planning, and commercial management.
  • Administering NEC contracts, ensuring compliance and effective project delivery.
  • Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities.
  • Managing variations, claims, and final accounts.
  • Interfacing directly with Tier 1 contractor clients, providing expert advice and building strong professional relationships.
  • Successfully managing the commercial aspects of multiple projects concurrently, which may include schemes within the core Environment, Rivers, Ports & Marine sector, as well as occasional projects in other civil engineering disciplines.
  • Assisting in the monitoring of project financial performance and reporting.
  • Contributing to the successful commercial outcome of challenging and rewarding projects.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally within a consultancy or main contractor environment.
  • Strong working knowledge and practical experience with NEC forms of contract is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a natural ability to build rapport and engage effectively with clients.
  • Demonstrable organisational skills with the ability to effectively manage and prioritise workloads across multiple projects.
  • A proactive and commercially astute approach.
  • Experience or a keen interest in the Environment, Rivers, Ports & Marine sectors would be a distinct advantage.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Working towards or holding RICS chartership would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Adaptability and a willingness to apply QS skills across different project types and sectors.

What's on offer:

  • Competitive basic salary: 38,000 - 50,000 (dependent on experience).
  • Car allowance.
  • Standard pension scheme.
  • Private healthcare and insurance (after a qualifying period of 6 months).
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Travel and accommodation expenses covered for required business travel.
  • Opportunity to work on a variety of high-profile projects with leading Tier 1 contractors.
  • A supportive and collaborative team environment with excellent opportunities for career progression.
