Are you a qualified Level 3 Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Hays Education is working in partnership with a well-established Primary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in South Manchester to recruit a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant for a long-term role. This full-time position involves supporting pupils aged 5-11 who have been referred from mainstream schools due to behavioural, emotional, or mental health challenges. You will work closely with teaching staff and therapists to deliver tailored interventions, support emotional regulation, and promote positive behaviour. The role includes 1:1 support, small group work, and contributing to a trauma-informed learning environment.

Your New Company

This South Manchester PRU is a specialist primary setting offering therapeutic and educational support to children who are temporarily unable to access mainstream education. The school operates across two sites and provides a highly structured, nurturing environment focused on emotional wellbeing and academic progress.
With a strong emphasis on restorative practice and trauma-informed care, the school offers access to sensory rooms, outdoor learning spaces, and a multidisciplinary team including counsellors, behaviour mentors, and educational psychologists. Staff are committed to helping pupils re-engage with learning and transition successfully back into mainstream or specialist settings.

What You'll Need to Succeed

A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent
Experience working with SEMH pupils or in a PRU/SEN setting
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
A current enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
