We are currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support and enhance the efficiency, quality, and productivity of our manufacturing cells and automated storage systems at our Manchester site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion the application of Lean Manufacturing principles across production areas, driving continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Lead small teams in CI (Continuous Improvement) projects, optimizing production cell layouts, assembly and test equipment, and overall manufacturing strategy to boost productivity.

  • Apply Lean visual management tools to enhance team engagement and drive improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Inventory, and Productivity (SQDIP).

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on product development, ensuring Lean and Design for Manufacture principles are embedded from design through supply chain and production.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain manufacturing processes for parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies.

  • Work closely with Design Engineering on the smooth release and integration of new products into manufacturing.

  • Estimate manufacturing costs, define time standards, and recommend tooling and process enhancements for new and existing product lines.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting systems to support production coordination.

  • Deliver assigned projects on time and within budget as agreed with the department manager.

  • Analyze processes for potential improvements and error reduction.

  • Design and procure efficient manufacturing layouts.

  • Research and apply new production techniques as required.

  • Specify and procure tooling and production equipment.

  • Drive quality improvements and ensure production targets are met.

  • Facilitate communication between departments to support smooth production operations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: Proficient in Lean Manufacturing tools, systems, and methodologies.

  • A professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum HND/Foundation Degree or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electronic Engineering.

  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, with the ability to apply engineering principles and best practices.

  • Capable of resolving moderately complex technical challenges with sound judgment.

  • Proactive, flexible, and results-driven with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent time management and the ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively.

  • A confident communicator and team leader, able to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Professional and presentable, with the ability to represent Azenta Life Sciences effectively to customers and suppliers.
