Fire Safety Manager (Grade 9)
Location: North Manchester, M9 6NZ
Salary: 400 a day
Contract: Fixed-term, 6 months (29th September 2025- 27th March 2026)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 4:30pm
About the Role
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Fire Safety Manager to take responsibility for fire safety across a diverse housing portfolio. This senior technical role is critical in ensuring compliance with fire safety legislation, protecting residents, staff, and visitors, and embedding best practice in building safety management.
Key Responsibilities
Lead on technical fire safety consultancy, delivering complex and innovative solutions that meet both legislative requirements and customer needs.
Take accountability for major fire safety projects and compliance programmes, applying project management principles to achieve objectives.
Conduct regular inspections, post-inspections, and audits to ensure statutory compliance with fire safety regulations and standards, including fire door inspections and fire protection system testing.
Monitor and evaluate compliance, identify risks and deficiencies, and oversee remedial actions to completion.
Prepare and present clear, comprehensive reports and recommendations to stakeholders.
Deliver fire safety training, advice, and awareness sessions to colleagues and residents, including emergency evacuation guidance.
Represent the organisation as an expert witness in enquiries, tribunals, or hearings as required.
Lead and manage the fire safety team, ensuring resources are deployed effectively to deliver strategic priorities.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement, keeping up to date with evolving legislation, policy, and best practice.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
A recognised fire safety related qualification (e.g. C08 Fire Risk Management in Residential Properties).
Proven management experience in a housing or multi-site fire safety environment.
Strong track record of achieving and sustaining fire safety compliance post-Grenfell, with direct experience of risk assessments and inspections in residential buildings.
In-depth knowledge of UK fire safety regulations, codes, and standards, including the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Understanding of fire protection systems, evacuation procedures, and statutory fire safety requirements for residential buildings.
Familiarity with fire safety management software and tools.
Strong analytical and reporting skills, with attention to detail.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and partners in a complex environment.
Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
Flexibility to work outside normal office hours, including participation in an out-of-hours standby rota.
