THIS IS A REMOTE ROLE, ACCEPTING APPLICANTS NATIONWIDE

The Functional Skills & ALS Lead plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective delivery and continuous improvement of Functional Skills (English & Maths) and Additional Learning Support (ALS).

This is a hands-on role responsible for:

  • Lead the Functional Skills (English & Maths) team and manage ALS provision.
  • Line manage Functional Skills tutors, setting expectations and providing coaching.
  • Act as ALS subject matter expert, writing and updating compliant ALS plans.
  • Oversee delivery of Functional Skills English and Maths programmes.
  • Support embedding of Functional Skills into vocational programmes.
  • Ensure curriculum is contextualised to workplace settings and learner needs.
  • Provide subject expertise and guidance to vocational tutors.
  • Lead identification, assessment, and support processes for additional learning needs.
  • Monitor conversion of ALS assessments into active, effective support plans.
  • Produce regular MI reports on Functional Skills, ALS, attendance, and learner outcomes.
  • Track attendance, intervene early, and mitigate risks of learner withdrawals.
  • Analyse learner progress data to measure ALS and FS impact.
  • Use data insights to drive continuous improvement and decision-making.
  • Maintain auditable ALS records for compliance and funding requirements.
  • Represent the organisation in audits, inspections, and quality reviews.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, employers, and external agencies to support learners.
  • Communicate progress and support updates effectively with learners, carers, and employers.
  • Promote reflective practice, CPD, and coaching within delivery teams.
  • Provide training to tutors embedding Functional Skills into vocational delivery.
  • Ensure safeguarding, Prevent, equality, and diversity principles underpin all provision.

Person Specification

  • Expertise and qualifications in Functional Skills delivery and ALS.
  • Excellent data and analysis skills, including attendance monitoring and MI reporting.
  • Proven ability to write and monitor ALS plans effectively.
  • Experience supporting and upskilling tutors to deliver embedded Functional Skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisation and self-management.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
