Electronics Technician - R&D Department

Location: Margate

We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Electronics Technician to join our Research & Development team. This is a hands-on role supporting the design, testing, and development of innovative products. You'll work closely with engineers in a dynamic lab environment, helping bring new ideas to life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble and test breadboards, prototypes, and test equipment in line with engineering project needs.
  • Assist engineers in preparing schematic designs, drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Create jigs, fixtures, and custom test setups to support product testing and development.
  • Manage engineering lab supplies and tools to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Support rework of materials or components in collaboration with the manufacturing team.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment.
  • Carry out additional duties as required by management.

Qualifications:

  • OND/HND in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent qualification).
  • Minimum of 1 year's hands-on experience in an engineering lab environment.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing techniques is desirable.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of electronic components, including transistors, diodes, ICs, and amplifier circuits.
  • Proficient with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, logic analysers, and spectrum analysers.
  • Skilled in SMT soldering, including work with components as small as 0201.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout software.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel for technical reporting and data handling.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with engineers and colleagues.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently when required.
