About the Role:
The London Borough of Merton is seeking a dedicated Education Welfare Officer (EWO) to join our team on a 3-month ongoing contract. You will work across up to 10 schools, supporting children, families, and schools to improve attendance and ensure every child receives access to education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the named EWO for up to 10 schools within the borough.

  • Undertake casework relating to school absence and persistent non-attendance.

  • Attend meetings in schools to address attendance concerns.

  • Provide advice, guidance, and practical support to schools on attendance matters.

  • Meet with parents and children to encourage and support improved school attendance.

  • Carry out Children Missing Education (CME) work.

About You:

  • Experience working with children, families, and schools to address attendance issues.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.

  • Knowledge of attendance legislation, safeguarding, and CME responsibilities.

  • Ability to manage a varied caseload and work collaboratively with school staff and external partners.
