Overview:A fantastic opportunity is available for a Biomedical Scientist to join a reputable Microbiology department in Milton Keynes, working with one of the UK’s top private healthcare providers. This permanent post offers a structured career path and the chance to work with advanced diagnostic systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic tests including bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and virology using both culture and molecular techniques.

  • Process and analyse clinical samples from a range of specimen types (e.g., swabs, urines, bloods).

  • Operate and maintain microbiology analysers and automated systems (e.g., MALDI-TOF, PCR platforms).

  • Ensure compliance with infection control procedures and UKAS ISO 15189 standards.

  • Take part in audits, IQC/EQA schemes, and contribute to the development of SOPs.

Requirements:

  • HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist (Microbiology discipline).

  • Strong post-registration experience in a clinical microbiology lab.

  • Confident in processing and interpreting microbiological cultures and rapid diagnostics.

  • Familiar with LIMS and electronic reporting systems.

  • Motivated, collaborative, and committed to continual learning and service excellence.

Working Hours & Contract Duration:

  • Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.

  • Initial core hours (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM), moving to extended rota after training.

  • Permanent position with scope for career progression.
