An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven and hands-on Production Manager to join the Operations department of a leading organisation in the heavy industrial engineering sector. Based in Wolverton (near Milton Keynes), you will be an integral part of the production team, ensuring operations run smoothly and efficiently within your assigned processes.

Reporting directly to the Senior Production Manager, this is a key role focused on the day-to-day management of production operations. You will be responsible for leading and motivating your team to achieve delivery, quality, cost, and quantity requirements, while championing continuous improvement and maintaining a safe working environment. Your focus will be on maximising resource utilisation, minimising waste, and fostering a high-performing, flexible workforce.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the production operations within your area to ensure outputs consistently meet required Delivery, Quality, Cost, and Quantity standards.

  • Drive continuous improvement activities, with particular attention to enhancing man-hour and resource efficiencies.

  • Accountable for short to medium-term planning and implementation of long-term strategies to maximise resource utilisation and minimise waste.

  • Manage, develop, and motivate teams, fostering high standards of employee performance and productivity, including managing disciplinary and grievance processes.

  • Prepare, agree, and control cost budgets for your area, covering all products and projects.

  • Ensure all processes and sub-process activities are defined, documented, and understood by the team to maintain cohesion with functional support teams (HR, QA, Finance).

  • Collaborate professionally with internal and external customers to resolve events, problems, and issues effectively and efficiently.

  • Manage and review team and individual performance, competencies, and work methods as part of a continuous development process.

  • Ensure the team’s development through creating and managing Personal Development Plans (PDPs) to build a highly flexible workforce.

  • Manage and enforce Health, Safety, and Environmental matters to maintain a safe working environment, including undertaking incident investigations as required.

The Candidate:

We are looking for a practical and engaging Operations/Production professional with experience in leading teams within a demanding production environment.

Essential Criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading production teams within a heavy industrial setting.

  • Proven ability to drive continuous improvement activities and enhance operational efficiencies, with a focus on resource management.

  • Experience in budgetary control and preparing/managing cost budgets.

  • Familiarity with team development, including performance management, disciplinary, and grievance procedures.

  • Strong commitment to and knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental matters.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills for effective internal and external customer management.

  • Proficiency in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of operational data and maintenance information.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a sector with processes such as paint, weld, or corrosion.

Salary: up to £57,067

Hours of Work: 37 hours per week
