Head of Development

We are seeking a skilled and strategic Head of Development to lead and manage the software development function within our organisation. Reporting to the senior executive team, the successful candidate will be responsible for shaping and delivering the technical development roadmap while overseeing a team of talented developers.

This role requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic insight. You’ll play a key role in ensuring that our technology solutions are innovative, scalable, and aligned with overall business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the company’s technical development strategy in alignment with business goals.

  • Lead the adoption and integration of new technologies that provide a competitive advantage.

  • Champion an "Automation-First" mindset across departments, leveraging technologies including AI where appropriate.

  • Oversee the performance, scalability, and efficiency of core systems and infrastructure.

  • Establish and enforce robust quality assurance and data protection standards.

  • Track and manage KPIs and budgets related to the development function.

  • Gather and apply stakeholder feedback to inform ongoing improvements.

  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership to communicate progress and align on priorities.

  • Manage, mentor, and grow the development team, ensuring high performance and career development.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience in a senior development or technical leadership role (e.g., Lead Developer, Head of Development, Technical Director).

  • Strong awareness of current and emerging technology trends.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based infrastructure, particularly AWS (e.g., EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, ElastiCache).

  • Proficiency with backend technologies including PHP, MySQL, Laravel, and Redis.

  • Comfortable working within agile development environments.

  • Strong understanding of budgeting, resource allocation, and business planning.

  • Skilled in conducting technical analysis and implementing effective development processes.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational abilities.

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and influence at a senior level.

  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.
