Our client is a well-established and respected manufacturing/engineering/industrial solutions business with a strong reputation for quality, innovation, and reliability. They supply precision-engineered products to a wide range of customers and pride ourselves on maintaining close collaboration between our purchasing, engineering, and production teams.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a Technical Buyer to join our team on a full-time, onsite basis. The successful candidate will play a key role in sourcing and purchasing technical components and materials, ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and timely delivery. This position is ideal for someone with a strong technical background who enjoys working closely with engineers and suppliers to deliver the best outcomes for production and design teams.
We welcome applications from experienced buyers with an engineering understanding or from engineers looking to transition into a purchasing role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and read technical drawings, specifications, and bills of materials (BOMs) to identify purchasing requirements.
  • Liaise closely with engineers, production, and design teams to ensure procurement aligns with project needs.
  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to achieve best value in terms of cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Raise purchase orders and maintain accurate records of supplier performance and pricing.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities through timely sourcing of prototype and production materials.
  • Manage supplier relationships and work collaboratively to resolve supply chain or technical issues.
  • Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising on quality.
  • Monitor inventory levels and support stock management as required.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Previous experience in a technical buying, procurement, or supply chain role is desirable.
  • Alternatively, a background in engineering (mechanical, electrical, or manufacturing) with an interest in moving into a procurement-focused role.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in using ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving and organisational abilities.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and hands-on environment.

Desirable:

  • CIPS qualification or working towards it.
  • Experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of supplier auditing and quality systems.
