About this Role:

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join the Southern Regional office of this leading Tier 1 main contractor, initially to manage the construction of a 35m new build DfE college project in Newport, Isle of Wight. This location is easily commutable from Southampton, Hampshire.


The project is a DfE funded phased demolition and new build scheme with works taking place over 2.5years within a live college environment. The initial phase of demolition commences this summer with main works building the 2 storey college which starting in the autumn.


On completion of this there is a further phase of demolition of one more building, then extensive landscaping of the grounds with full completion in September 2027


All works take place within the college campus which will remain live and operational throughout the full academic years. This will require careful logistics planning and regular interface with college and staff.


You will be responsible for overseeing site set up and demolition with a Site Manager, whilst completing the final preconstruction phase through RIBA Stage 4 to develop design, buildability, construction programme and cost plan with a small team through to financial close, then lead your team throughout construction delivery phase on site.


Reporting to the visiting Project Director with responsibility for several schemes, you will autonomous and fully responsible for managing the project throughout all phases.


You will lead your team holding ultimate responsibility for client liaison, management of project team and the smooth and timely progress of construction on site, working closely with the Project Surveyor with financial control of the project, plus health, safety and quality control.


About the Company:

The client is the busy Hampshire regional office of a leading national main contractor, with a turnover in excess of 100m, and secured workload in the education, commercial, industrial, MoJ, defence, and leisure sectors in the Hampshire, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey areas. The contractor has a successful proven track record in these sectors, and an excellent reputation for safety, quality, plus training, development, internal progression and overall retention of staff.

Projects range in size from 30m to 50m+. Work is secured through several national and regional frameworks, negotiated work with repeat clients, plus competitive tenders.

Requirements including certificates and qualifications:

You will be an experienced Project Manager with a proven track record within a major contracting organisation, able to deliver design & build schemes up to 25m-30m in value.

Previous experience of delivering a DfE education project would be advantageous.
Key attributes will include excellent client facing skills, design team and site team management ability, technical, contractual and commercial knowledge, plus leadership ability, focus and drive.

Due to the location and duration of this project, you will ideally be based within easy commute of Southampton, Portsmouth or Lymington - the crossing is a 25 journey on the RedJet from Town Quay, with 10 min taxi then from West Cowes to site.
It is a similar commute from Portsmouth or Lymington, but a slightly longer journey on the island.
The contractor will cover the cost of the commute.
