Overview


A leading civil engineering and highways contractor is seeking an experienced Site Agent to join a major highways improvement project near Newton Abbot. This freelance Inside IR35 position offers an immediate start and is ideal for a hands-on professional with a proven track record in managing civil engineering or infrastructure schemes.



Key Responsibilities


  • Support the Project Manager in the day-to-day management of on-site operations.

  • Ensure compliance with SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) standards and company procedures.

  • Manage and interpret project design, programme, and budget requirements.

  • Supervise Sub Agents and subcontractors to ensure safe, efficient, and timely delivery.

  • Act as the main liaison point for stakeholders, maintaining clear and professional communication.

  • Develop construction programmes, phasing plans, and method statements.

  • Work closely with the commercial team to produce cost reports and capture compensation events.

  • Manage direct resources including labour, plant, and materials.

  • Ensure activity plans, permits, and safe systems of work are in place before commencement.

  • Maintain detailed site records including diaries, resource logs, and quality documentation.


Essential Requirements


  • Civil Engineering or related qualification.

  • CSCS card.

  • SMSTS certification.

  • Full UK/EEC driving licence.


Desirable Skills & Experience


  • Proven experience managing highways or civil infrastructure projects.

  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental management.
