Deputy SENDCo

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and motivated Deputy SENDCo to join our inclusive and forward-thinking secondary school in Northampton. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator to take the next step in their career and support the leadership of our SEND provision.



The Role

As Deputy SENDCo, you will work closely with the SENDCo and wider inclusion team to ensure that every student with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities receives the support they need to thrive both academically and personally. You will play a pivotal role in shaping our SEND strategy, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning, and building strong partnerships with parents, carers, and external agencies.



Key Responsibilities

  • Support the SENDCo in leading and managing the day-to-day running of the SEND department.

  • Line-manage and support Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) and other staff involved in SEND provision.

  • Coordinate interventions and personalised learning plans to remove barriers to learning.

  • Monitor progress of students with SEND and contribute to effective tracking and reporting.

  • Assist with statutory processes including EHCP reviews and referrals.

  • Deliver training and guidance to staff to promote inclusive teaching across the school.

  • Contribute to the strategic development of SEND policy and practice.



About You

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching in a secondary school setting preferred

  • Strong understanding of SEND legislation and the SEND Code of Practice.

  • Experience supporting students with a variety of needs, including those with EHCPs.

  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills.

  • Ideally working towards, or willing to undertake, the National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO).

  • A collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to inclusive education.
