Halton Borough Council is seeking a passionate and committed Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) to join our Community Safety and Protection Division. This is a vital role, working with victims of domestic abuse to provide specialist support, advocacy, and safety planning to reduce risk and empower individuals to make informed decisions about their lives.

You will be managing a caseload, including experience of undertaking relevant risk assessments and safety plans with service users to ensure that service delivered reflects the actions identified.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist advice, guidance, and advocacy to high-risk victims of domestic abuse.
  • Identify the risks and needs of domestic abuse victims using an evidence based risk identification checklist.
  • Work with high and medium risk victims of domestic abuse to help them access services to keep them and their children safe.
  • IProviding advocacy, emotional and practical support and information to victims including in relation to legal options, housing, health and finance.
  • Manage and a caseload ensuring that each client receives the appropriate service individual to their needs.
  • Develop strong working relationships with statutory and voluntary partners to improve outcomes for victims and their families.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to monitoring and reporting requirements.

About You:

We are looking for someone who is compassionate, resilient, and committed to supporting people affected by domestic abuse. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of working with individuals affected by domestic abuse or other forms of violence/abuse whether in a paid or voluntary capacity.
  • Safelives IDVA Training qualification (Safelives / Womens's Aid DAPA) or (or willingness to work towards).
  • A good understanding of safeguarding procedures, risk assessment, and safety planning.
  • Strong communication and advocacy skills with the ability to engage with people in crisis.
