Are you an experienced Senior Engineer with a strong background in major highway projects and specific expertise in earthworks packages? Looking for an immediate start on an ongoing project in the Norwich area?
We have an urgent requirement for a skilled and dedicated Senior Engineer to join a key highway infrastructure project in Norwich. You will play a vital role in overseeing and managing the earthworks package, ensuring works are delivered safely, to specification, and within programme.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all on-site engineering activities related to the earthworks package, including setting out, ground stabilisation, bulk earthmoving, and formation preparation.
- Ensure works are carried out in accordance with design specifications, method statements, and quality standards.
- Manage and supervise site engineering staff and subcontractors involved in the earthworks operations.
- Liaise effectively with the Project Manager, design teams, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project progression.
- Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, progress reports, as-built drawings, and quality assurance documentation for the earthworks package.
- Monitor and ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations on site.
- Proactively identify and resolve any technical issues or challenges related to the earthworks.
- Assist with quality control, inspections, and material testing.
- Ensure temporary works are designed and executed correctly.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as a Senior Engineer on major highway construction projects is essential.
- Demonstrable experience specifically managing and delivering significant earthworks packages.
- Proficient in setting out techniques and the use of modern surveying equipment (Total Station, GPS).
- Strong understanding of earthworks specifications, testing procedures, and relevant industry standards (e.g., DMRB, MCHW).
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions on site.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Thorough knowledge of health, safety, and environmental legislation applicable to highways and earthworks.
- Relevant qualifications in Civil Engineering or a related construction discipline (e.g., HNC, HND, Degree).
- A valid CSCS card is essential.
- SMSTS or SSSTS qualifications are highly desirable.
