With a proud heritage and a unique approach to retail, Jarrold is known for offering something truly different – especially when it comes to its much-loved Book Department.Jarrold are looking for a passionate and experienced Book Buyer to join the team on a part-time basis to cover maternity leave. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who genuinely loves books and understands the world of publishing, retail, or literary events.Daily duties:
  • Carefully curating a range of books that reflects customer interests and emerging trends
  • Managing stock levels and department budgets to ensure commercial success
  • Planning and delivering engaging events like author signings and seasonal promotions, working closely with the marketing team
  • Building strong relationships with publishers, suppliers, authors, and the in-store retail team
  • Attending trade shows and visiting other Jarrold branches when required (a full UK driving licence is essential)
Requirements for the role: 
  • Someone with experience in the book trade – whether in buying, bookselling, publishing, or literary events
  • A genuine love for books and a good grasp of what’s popular with readers
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with the ability to maintain and grow supplier relationships
  • Strong organisational skills and a commercial mindset
  • A flexible approach – happy to work the occasional weekend or evening for events
