We're looking for an experienced Maintenance Surveyor to join East Devon's Housing service on an initial 3-month assignment, starting as soon as possible. You'll play a key role in delivering a responsive, high-quality repair service for tenants while ensuring the Council's homes remain safe, well-maintained and compliant.

The Role
You'll provide day-to-day technical support across repairs, voids and contractor management, ensuring works are delivered right first time and to a high standard. Working closely with the Senior Technical Officer and wider team, you'll help maintain housing stock, support compliance and contribute to our commitment to consistently satisfied customers.
This is a hands-on role covering a defined patch, requiring regular site visits and close collaboration with contractors and tenants.

Key Responsibilities
路Managing reactive and planned maintenance activities within budget and contract requirements.
路Investigating repair requests, diagnosing defects, raising works and completing pre- and post-inspections.
路Prioritising works using HHSRS principles to manage safety and risks effectively.
路Monitoring contractors' performance and ensuring quality, value for money and contractual compliance.
路Supporting voids delivery, including specifications, inspections and financial control.
路Assisting with compliance matters around gas, electrical, fire, asbestos and other statutory obligations.
路Updating stock information and contributing to planned and cyclical programme data.
路Working directly with tenants, contractors, customer services and internal teams to resolve issues quickly and professionally.
路Responding to emergencies (e.g. floods, fires) to make properties safe and hand over works where necessary.
路Supporting disrepair, complaints and Ombudsman cases through detailed inspections and reporting.

What You'll Need
Essential
路UK Resident
路Minimum 3 years technical background in building maintenance, surveying or repairs within local authority or housing association.
路Competent user of IT, including Microsoft Office and housing/repairs systems.
路Ability to work independently across a patch-based role.
路Access to your own vehicle with business insurance.
路Basic DBS (processed upon offer).

Desirable
路HNC or equivalent qualification in a building discipline.
路Professional membership (e.g. RICS).
路Familiarity with systems such as OpenHousing or Keystone.
路Understanding of damp, mould, sustainability and building pathology.
路Ability to bring your own tools.
