Learning Support Assistant - Therapeutic & Behavioural Focus - SEN School - Oldham - Immediate Start

Your New CompanyHays Education is proud to be working with a specialist SEN school in Oldham that supports children and young people with autism spectrum condition (ASC) and associated behavioural and emotional needs. The school provides a therapeutic, trauma-informed environment where pupils receive personalised support to help them regulate emotions, develop communication skills, and access learning in a safe and structured setting.

Your New RoleAs an Autism Support Assistant, you will play a key role in delivering both educational and therapeutic support to pupils with autism and complex behavioural needs. Working closely with teachers, therapists, and behaviour specialists, you will help implement individual behaviour support plans, use de-escalation strategies, and support pupils through sensory regulation activities. You will also assist with structured learning tasks, communication development (e.g., PECS, Makaton), and emotional wellbeing interventions. This is a full-time, long-term role with the potential to become permanent.

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • Experience supporting children or young people with autism and behavioural needs
  • Understanding of therapeutic approaches such as trauma-informed practice, sensory integration, or emotional regulation strategies
  • Familiarity with communication tools like PECS, Makaton, or visual schedules
  • A calm, empathetic, and resilient approach to behaviour management
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one through Hays
