Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts and financial statements in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Liaise with external auditors, banks, HMRC, and other stakeholders.
  • Advise the senior leadership team and governors on financial performance and strategic planning.
  • Oversee fee billing and credit control, working closely with the admissions and bursary teams.
  • Manage and develop a small finance team with a focus on high standards, accuracy, and service.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
Person Specification
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in financial management, ideally in an educational or not-for-profit setting.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across departments.
  • Proficient in financial systems and Excel; experience with Sage or similar accounting software preferred.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Desirable:
  • Experience within the independent school sector.
  • Familiarity with charity accounting (SORP).
  • Knowledge of school fee structures and pupil-related finance.
