About the Role

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) – Pastoral Lead to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) needs.

 You’ll coordinate and lead support staff, foster positive relationships with pupils and families, and model best practice in trauma-informed pastoral care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and model effective pastoral and behaviour support strategies
  • Support pupils’ daily routines, emotional check-ins, and transitions
  • Promote independence, resilience, and readiness to learn
  • Coordinate and mentor Teaching Assistants across year groups
  • Deliver small-group or 1:1 pastoral and learning interventions
  • Liaise with teachers, therapists, and external professionals
  • Support attendance, behaviour, and engagement monitoring
  • Contribute to multi-agency meetings and pupil review plans
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health, and safety procedures

  • Experienced in supporting pupils with SEMH and/or ASC
  • Strong understanding of trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches
