Operations Lead – Plant Hire Industry

Location: Penrith, Cumbria
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £45,000–£55,000 (£18–£22 per hour)

Hours: Monday–Friday, 07:00–17:00

About the Company

Interaction Technical is proud to partner with a nationally recognised plant hire firm with over 30 years of industry experience. As part of their continued growth, they are seeking a hands-on Operations Lead to take ownership of a busy but compact depot in Carlisle. You’ll be supported by a regional team and given the autonomy to shape the depot’s performance and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily depot operations, ensuring safety, service, and efficiency
  • Supervise and coordinate large-scale project activities
  • Manage plant movements, goods-in, and parts ordering
  • Support operators on-site when required
  • Liaise with mobile fitters for timely maintenance and repairs
  • Report plant damage and service issues
  • Review depot performance and manage schedules/resources
  • Ensure compliance and accurate documentation
  • Implement business initiatives and drive operational improvements
  • Build relationships with key customers and support the sales team
  • Champion HSQE standards across all activities
  • Maintain operational KPIs in line with company expectations

Candidate Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of plant hire, construction, or heavy equipment operations
  • Proven leadership experience with team management skills
  • Excellent organisational and communication abilities
  • Commitment to health, safety, and continuous improvement
  • Valid CPCS Tickets
  • Valid PTS Medical and SCM (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the plant sector
