A leading manufacturer of off highway diesel engines in currently looking for a Senior Design Engineer to join the Component Engineering Base Engine Team. This is an exciting time of significant investment in new design, driven by the evolving energy landscape. The role will focus on developing design solutions to meet challenging requirements for New Product Introduction, New Technology, and updates to existing platforms. The successful candidate will be an experienced contributor on complex assignments, working with global teams across manufacturing sites, suppliers, and customers.
What You Will Do:
As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be expected to have strong design experience, knowledge of internal combustion engines, and the ability to lead, plan, and execute challenging tasks and projects. Your responsibilities will include:
Designing and packaging a variety of core engine components, including:
Major aluminium and cast iron castings, gear trains, valve trains, drive trains, and in-cylinder components.
Components related to breather, cooling, and lubrication systems, and FEAD systems.
Working in a multi-disciplined global team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability, and functional requirements.
Developing strong relationships with suppliers, with travel encouraged to ensure design solutions align with high-quality and cost expectations.
Planning and managing project and sub-project deliverables, with the ability to lead.
Conducting risk assessments through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
Generating reports to support component and system design reviews.
Maintaining communication with peers, team leaders, and stakeholders regarding progress against planned activities.
Developing drawings to company standards and other technical data to support the release of parts for prototype and volume production.
Working with suppliers using APQP methodology and tools.
What You Have:
Basic Requirements
Knowledge of one or more of the following core engine systems: Rotating Systems, Valve Train, Castings, Lubrication, Breather and Cooling systems, Bolted joint and sealing experience.
Minimum of 6 years of design experience in CAD.
Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering), though other qualifications or experience are also valued.
Good understanding of component manufacturing principles and processes.
Good understanding of manufacturing assembly principles.
Design knowledge of engine and mechanical components and systems.
Self-motivation and the ability to manage and deliver tasks to meet established commitments.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to collaborate and manage interactions with external suppliers to develop design solutions.
Desirable Requirements
Modelling & Detailing experience in CREO4.
Knowledge and usage of Teamcenter (or similar data management software).
Experience in conducting and participating in FMEA.
Experience in component and engine validation & verification.
Experience gained in the off-highway diesel or machine sector.
Experience with alternative fuels and spark-ignited engines.
Familiarity with the APQP methodology.
