A leading global manufacturer of off highway machinery is currently looking for a Supplier Development Engineer to join their team based in Peterlee. The position is paying up to £38.63phr (Umbrella) and is working Monday to Friday day shifts (early finish of 12pm on a Friday)

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring the quality of supplies by conducting tests and assessments on incoming supplies to identify any quality issues; Developing supplier inspection, testing, and evaluation mechanism.
  • Generating reports on supplier quality, by monitoring their defect rates and areas that can lead to potential flaws; Guiding suppliers to reduce these defect rates.
  • Researching the potential vendors, assessing their manufacturing environment, practices, and procedures; Conducting supplier quality control audits to ensure compliance with organisational and federal policies and standards.
  • Supporting suppliers in improving their performance through process enhancements, implementing process controls, and developing quality assurance plans.

Skills and Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, Quality), Materials Science, or a related technical field. Equivalent practical experience in a quality assurance role within a manufacturing environment may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in supplier quality assurance, quality control, or a related field within a manufacturing industry.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Thorough understanding of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949).
    • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and quality control methodologies.
    • Extensive experience with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements and submission levels.
    • Familiarity with relevant manufacturing standards, procedures, and policies.
    • Proficiency in conducting supplier audits and assessments.
    • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and other quality analysis tools.
  • Problem Solving: Proven ability to identify, analyse, and resolve complex quality issues with suppliers. Experience in implementing root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Process Improvement: Demonstrated ability to evaluate current processes and implement improvements to enhance supplier quality and efficiency.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information, provide constructive feedback, and negotiate with suppliers.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to effectively collaborate with both internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and generate comprehensive quality reports.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous and detail-oriented approach to quality assurance and compliance.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and quality management software.

Desirable:

  • Professional certifications in quality management (e.g., CQE, CQA).
  • Experience in specific industry standards relevant to the organisation's products (e.g., automotive, aerospace, medical devices).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.
  • Experience with supplier relationship management (SRM) systems.
  • Auditor certification (e.g., ISO 9001 auditor).
