LB382 - Mechanical FitterSalary: £16.60 per hourLocation: DarringtonOverview:First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Mechanical Fitter on behalf of one of our clients.You will be responsible for the safe and effective maintenance and repair of fixed and mobile plant across operations. You will play a key role in supporting operational continuity and minimising equipment downtime while maintaining high safety standards.Our client encourages applications from ex-military personnel however all candidates will be given due consideration.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Carry out repair and maintenance of static and mobile quarry plant.
- Undertake risk assessments for non-routine tasks.
- Undertake engine servicing / repair on static and mobile plant engines.
- Order stores/tools/equipment/parts as required.
- Responsible for personal safety and that of all personnel under your authority, including others who may be affected by the company’s activities.
- Carry out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions, and to comply with safety rules / procedures, regulations and codes of practice.
- If aware of any unsafe practice or condition, or if in any doubt about the safety of any situation, consult Supervisor.
- Obtain and use the correct tools / equipment for the work and not to use any that are unsafe or damaged. All tools, equipment and personal protective equipment must be stored in the approved place after use.
- Ensure that all guards are securely fixed, and that all safety equipment and personal protective clothing / equipment provided are used.
- Not to operate any plant or equipment unless authorised.
- To report any accident, near-miss, dangerous occurrence or dangerous condition to line management.
- To switch off and secure unattended plant or equipment.
- To avoid improvised arrangements and suggest safe ways of eliminating hazards.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience and knowledge of quarry plant mechanical repair and maintenance is essential.
- Satisfactory completion of the relevant competency management system modules.
- Completion of all other training as defined within the Training Matrix.
- To work well as part of a team and on own.
- You will need to be a self-motivated problem solver able to work under your own initiative.
- Should possess good diagnostic skills and have the ability to provide a logical approach to fault finding.
- A good communicator and self-organised.
