Full Time Learning Support Assistant Job available in Portsmouth

Are you a patient, compassionate, and enthusiastic individual with a passion for supporting children with additional needs? A welcoming primary school in Portsmouth is looking for a Teaching Assistant to provide support for pupils with SEMH across Year R through to Year 4 on a full time basis.

This is full time Learning Support Assistant/ Teaching Assistant, working Monday to Friday term time only. This is a long term temporary position, and is looking for the right Teaching Assistant to start ASAP until the end of the academic year.



About the Role:

For this job you will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to provide consistent support for the child, helping them access learning and develop key social and emotional skills. Your support will be crucial in creating a calm, structured environment that enables the child to thrive.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 support for a child with SEMH during morning lessons and general class support during afternoon sessions.

  • Implement strategies from the child's Individual Support Plan and EHCP

  • Encourage social interaction and support emotional regulation

  • Adapt activities to suit the child's needs and learning style

  • Collaborate with staff and parents to monitor and support progress



We're Looking for Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with children with SEMH or additional needs (preferred but not essential)

  • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and strong communication skills

  • Is calm, reliable, and committed to supporting the child's development

  • Can follow guidance while also using initiative when needed

  • Holds a relevant TA qualification (desirable)
