Quality Inspector - Space Industry (Portsmouth)

We are supporting a major customer in the space sector and seeking a Quality Inspector to ensure satellite components meet stringent quality standards. This role is based on-site in Portsmouth and involves inspection of electrical/electronic components in a cleanroom environment, ensuring compliance with ECSS standards.



Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections per ECSS-Q-ST-70-08, 28, 38 or latest ECSS-Q-ST-70-61.
  • Verify flight hardware and test setups against design and quality rules.
  • Ensure "as built as design" validation and support environmental/H&S controls.
  • Monitor cleanliness, contamination, and ESD control.
  • Identify and report non-conformities; support root cause analysis.
  • Promote a quality-first mindset and continuous improvement.
  • Support documentation, rework approvals, and flight packing.


Essential Skills & Experience

  • ECSS certification from an ESA-approved training school.
  • 3+ years in space, aerospace, or military electronics.
  • Expertise in high-reliability electronics, RF products, and surface mount assembly.
  • Familiarity with CAD, CAM, SAP, and manufacturing execution systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and team-working skills in a matrix environment.
  • Proactive approach to change and improvement.


Additional Info

  • Flexibility required: overtime, night shifts, weekends.
  • Contract role inside IR35; permanent option available based on preference and experience.
