We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and experienced 1:1 Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to support a non-verbal autistic pupil in a primary setting in Preston. This is a temporary position covering from 2nd June to 11th July 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support tailored to the individual needs of a non-verbal autistic child.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver appropriate strategies and interventions.
  • Support learning, communication, and personal development in a structured and nurturing manner.
  • Use visual aids, communication systems (e.g., PECS, Makaton, AAC), and other SEN strategies.
  • Ensure the child's safety and engagement in all activities throughout the school day.
  • Monitor and report on progress to the SENCO and class teacher.

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience working 1:1 with autistic, non-verbal children in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of autism and non-verbal communication methods.
  • Ability to remain calm, flexible, and responsive to individual needs.

Must Haves:

  • Legal Right to Work in the UK: You must have the legal right to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced Child DBS: You must have an Enhanced Child DBS check or be willing to undertake one (we can help with this).
