Summary

Chalk at Wiston Estate who has recently been awarded five stars from William Sitwell at The Telegraph, and holder of a TripAdvisor Travelers Choice Award, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Shift Supervisor.

The restaurant works alongside a Multi award-winning winery set in the heart of the South Downs.

The Shift Supervisor will support the daily operations of our establishment, Chalk Restaurant. The ideal candidate will support the restaurant to operate efficiently, maintain a high standard of customer satisfaction. This role involves managing staff, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and creating a welcoming environment for guests

Responsibilities:

People

  • Supervise front of house operations during shift
  • Lead pre-shift briefings to align the team on specials and service focus.
  • Assign tasks, manage work schedules and delegate duties to staff
  • Train and support staff inclusive of new team members onboarding.
  • Create and maintain a happy, motivated, and high performing team environment
  • Communicate effectively with management and other supervisors
  • Collaborate with the kitchen and bar to maintain timing and quality standards

Customer Experience

  • To help deliver an exceptional customer experience, in line with the Estate values
  • To continuously look for areas of development and improvement in the guest experience and assist the Restaurant Manager in implementing these.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction and resolve concerns discreetly and effectively
  • To monitor and develop staff to consistently meet exceptional customer experience
  • To oversee services in the absence of or in assistance to the Restaurant Manager.

P&L

  • To engage the team in trying to increase spend per head with upselling.
  • To assist in rota and staff cost management
  • Monitor inventory/stock of sundries and assist with reporting and restocking as needed.
  • Assist with closing duties and shift-end reports, including POS reconciliation

Planning & Operations

  • To ensure team members are closing bills and processing payments in the correct way with any anomalies being flagged to the Restaurant Manager.
  • To support Restaurant manager with Newbridge data being uploaded and maintained correctly.
  • Open and close the restaurant, including end of day reporting.

Statutory

  • To ensure legal compliance and operating standards are met and enforced across the front of house team including the enforcement of health, safety & hygiene regulations.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience a supervisory level or similar role in the hospitality industry.
  • Strong understanding of restaurant management software, POS systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • In-depth knowledge of food and beverage quality standards and regulations.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

What we will offer you

  • 40 hours per week
  • 2 evening services; Wed Sunday lunch, Friday - Saturday dinner
  • Salary £29,120 Per Annum basic (+service charge)
