Our Outstanding mixed comprehensive school in London is seeking an inspirational and experienced Full-Time Lead Practitioner of History to join our thriving Humanities department, commencing in September 2025. This is a unique opportunity for an exceptional educator to drive teaching and learning excellence and shape the historical understanding of our students across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level).
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Modelling and disseminating outstanding teaching and learning practice in History across all key stages.
- Leading the development and implementation of an innovative and rigorous History curriculum.
- Designing and delivering high-quality professional development and coaching for History teachers and new staff.
- Monitoring the quality of teaching and learning in History, providing constructive feedback and support for improvement.
- Developing and championing engaging historical enquiry projects and extra-curricular activities for students.
- Contributing to whole-school initiatives related to teaching, learning, and curriculum development.
- Undertaking direct teaching responsibility for a significant timetable of History lessons across all key stages, including A-Level.
- Analysing student performance data to identify trends and inform strategic planning for the department.
- Promoting a culture of high expectations, academic excellence, and a love for history among both students and staff.
- Keeping abreast of the latest developments in historical scholarship and history education and incorporating them into practice.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A degree in History or a closely related highly relevant field.
- Extensive and demonstrable experience teaching History across Key Stage 3, GCSE, and A-Level, with a track record of achieving consistently outstanding student outcomes.
- Proven experience in a leadership role related to teaching and learning, curriculum development, or staff training.
- A deep and up-to-date subject knowledge, with a passion for diverse historical periods, themes, and interpretations.
- Exceptional pedagogical skills, including the ability to model outstanding practice and differentiate instruction for all learners.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills, with the ability to inspire and influence colleagues.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret data and drive evidence-informed improvements.
