Mechanical Fitter Required to work on Freight Locomotives and Plant Maintenance Vehicles.

The Opportunity
Mechanical Fitter required to complete maintenance, services and breakdowns to various fleets of Locomotives and on track plant machinery, working for an organisation who help to maintain the rail network across the UK.

Our client is a leading business in the rail sector providing stable but varied and interesting employment.

To succeed in this role, you will ideally have experience in a heavy engineering environment carrying out mechanical fitting and maintenance  and repairs on large vehicles, heavy plant, diesel motors or machinery. If you have experience of hydraulics and pneumatics then you are a particularly desirable candidate. 

Midlands based covering between Rugby and Derby
£38,000 to £42,000 depending on experience + van and fuel card

Location:
Base location: Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Rugby, Leicester 
Will require travel to different locations between Derbyshire and Rugby.

Shifts:
Working a mixture of days, afters and nights on a 14 week rolling roster

Salary
Salary for this role is up to £42,000 + overtime and progression opportunities (company van and fuel card included)

Role and Responsibilities

  • Complete mechanical fitter maintenance activities to locomotives and on track plant machinery.
  • Undertake mechanical and some electrical repairs to fleets of trains.
  • Carry out unsupervised tasks.
  • Ensure relevant maintenance exams are completed safely.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a mechanical fitter with previous experience of working on diesel engines, heavy plants or HGV machines and have a strong understanding of mechanical maintenance, along with an electrical appreciation.

A full UK driving licence is essential. You will need to be both a self-starter and a team player, being able to work alone and in a team environment, hitting deadlines ensuring all relevant work is completed correctly. 

Essential

  • Relevant experience as a heavy Mechanical Fitter.
  • Knowledge & experience in of mechanical and minor electrical repairs and inspections.
  • Full UK Driving licence.
  • Must be able pass a DBS check
  • Flexible, and able to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • NVQ level 3 in engineering discipline.
