Role overview:

To work as an integral member of the Hill in-house Technical Design Team. Responsible for preparing in-house working drawings packages and ensuring that these comply with the design intent of the agreed Contract Drawings and meet the requirements of the Sales Team, the Architectural Design Team, and Joint Venture Partners where appropriate. Responsible for preparing Standard House Type, Standard Component and Construction Details in line with agreed programme dates and agreed BIM processes and protocols.

Key Results Areas:

1. Design Quality

  • Ensure that all Hill information(drawn or written) that is issued externally and internally is prepared to a professional standard, and in line with company protocols
  • Ensure Hill Design procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Ensure that appropriate design standards are met, and champion good design on all projects.
  • Follow agreed CAD/BIM protocols and project filing systems
  • Prepare individual Project Working Drawings packages in line with Hill Technical procedures and in liaison with external consultants.

2. Design Risk Management

  • Carry out regular and detailed Technical Design Audits on working drawings schemes.
  • Ensure that HILL procedures are followed and ensure that all information produced is in line with HILL agreed protocols
  • Ensure Company Health & Safety policies and procedures are adhered to and understands the Company’s role in relation to CDM regulations
  • Follow latest and appropriate design and technical legislation and policies
  • Ensure that in-house working drawings, standard house types and standard construction details are produced in line with agreed BIM/CAD processes and protocols

3. Programme Management

  • Responsible for reporting on individual working drawings programmes and ensuring that projects progress in a timely manner and to suit the agreed business plan.
  • Coordinate external consultants to ensure all necessary working drawings supporting information is provided to suit the agreed programme and to an appropriate standard
  • Prepare Employers Requirements including Specifications to suit project Sales and Development aspirations, and Joint Venture Partner requirements, and key dates programme.
  • Prepare all information in line with individual project programmes to ensure that projects progress in a timely manner and to suit the agreed business plan.
  • Ensure that working drawings and construction materials meet specification, and sales and design requirements, and are signed off to suit both the sales and marketing, and construction programmes.

Skills, Experience and Attributes:

We are looking for someone with an architectural/technical background, ideally has experience working in an architectural practice working on RIBA stages 4-5. You MUST have experience in using REVIT 

  • Architectural/Building Technology based degree with a strong portfolio of work gained within the residential sector
  • Has a portfolio of previous experience showcasing Residential design
  • Good construction knowledge and understanding of building processes and Building Regulations.
  • Demonstrates true interest in, and understanding of high-quality architecture through portfolio
  • Team player and works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
  • People management experience with the ability to lead, advise and develop others
  • Experience of coordinating Consultants and Design Team members through Construction design stages.
  • Experience of working with Joint Venture partners
  • Capability to run Design Team Meetings
  • Ability to carry out technical design audits
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modelling processes (BIM) and experience of using Revit
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Health & Safety requirements and the Company’s role and responsibility in relation to CDM regulations.
  • Be conversant with and follow latest and appropriate design and technical legislation and policies on projects
  • CSCS qualified
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, Revit Architecture, AutoCAD/Auto CAD LT, Photoshop, InDesign, 3DS
  • Up to date with CPD requirements of relevant professional organisations
  • Excellent eye for detail with the ability to critique design schemes constructively
