Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 09:00-17:00)
We are recruiting on behalf of North Lincolnshire Council for two Housing Advice Officers to join the Adults & Health service area.
The successful candidates will deliver a professional Housing Options and Homelessness Service, providing advice, support, and guidance to individuals and families at risk of homelessness. You will help ensure the Council fulfils its statutory duties under Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, taking a person-centred and strength-based approach to support people into sustainable accommodation.
- Identify and address causes of potential homelessness, offering tailored prevention solutions.
- Conduct homelessness investigations and make recommendations to the Housing Advice Co-ordinator.
- Provide advice and advocacy, including negotiating with landlords, families, and lenders, and liaising with partner agencies.
- Attend and occasionally deputise at multi-agency meetings (e.g. Child in Need, MAPPA, MARAC, ASB).
- Manage casework, including assessments, personalised housing plans, and decision letters.
- Ensure appropriate and lawful use of temporary accommodation.
- Respond to enquiries and complaints from councillors, MPs, and other official bodies.
- Attend housing advice surgeries, home visits, and property inspections as needed.
- Promote inclusive working practices and champion targeted client groups.
- Working towards a Level 4 CIH qualification or equivalent experience.
- Good understanding of housing options and homelessness services in North Lincolnshire.
- Experience conducting client assessments, interviews, and homelessness investigations.
- Experience working with homeless people or rough sleepers.
- Excellent communication skills with tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and able to use service-specific IT systems.
- Ability to work independently and flexibly in an agile environment.
- Must have the ability to travel across North Lincolnshire as required.
- Work may be carried out in an office, at home, or within community settings.
- The role may involve contact with individuals displaying challenging behaviour.
- Participation in the Council’s out-of-hours homelessness service may be required.
