SEND Support Specialist
  • Hourly Rate: £16.65 PAYE

We are seeking a SEND Support Specialist to join our team, focusing on supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role is crucial in managing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring statutory compliance, and improving the quality and timeliness of documentation.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Address the backlog of EHCP annual reviews, ensuring compliance with tight Department for Education (DfE) timescales.
  • Improve the quality and timeliness of EHCP documentation and amendments by reviewing and updating as necessary.
  • Explore and implement best practices from other councils to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Undertake statutory duties relating to SEND through assessment and review processes.
  • Gather information and advice from relevant agencies to support statutory responsibilities.
  • Work closely with parents, education providers, and services across Education, Health, and Care.
  • Advise education providers within the statutory framework of the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in both care and SEND sectors, with familiarity with statutory SEND processes including plan writing and review procedures.
  • Ability to complete roughly 5 EHCP reviews per day.
  • Strong working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Proficient in reviewing documentation and evidence to update/amend EHCPs and drafting EHCPs from needs assessments.
  • Excellent communication skills to advise on content to support plan development.
Working Arrangements:
  • Hybrid working model
  • Core hours are 9am–5pm, with some flexibility.
  • Immediate start required.

  • Stay up to date with national, regional, and local SEND developments, and share relevant updates.
  • Adhere to Sheffield Safeguarding Children’s and Adults’ Boards procedures.
  • Promote the welfare and safety of children and young people.
