Are you passionate about using physical education to inspire and support young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Academics are currently looking for a dedicated Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to join a Alterntive Provision in Sittingbourne.
In this unique position, you will use PE, movement-based learning, and physical engagement to help children with SEN access the curriculum, regulate their emotions, and develop confidence in both academic and personal skills. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to tailor learning experiences that meet the needs of each individual learner.
Responsibilities
Support children with a range of SEN, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and communication needs
Use PE and physical activities to enhance engagement and academic learning
Deliver small-group and 1:1 sessions that develop motor skills, focus, confidence, and wellbeing
Assist in implementing personalised learning plans and behaviour support strategies
Promote positive relationships and model emotional regulation
Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment
Support PE lessons and lead adapted physical activities when required
Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure consistent support for every learner
What We're Looking For
Experience working with children with SEN, especially in an alternative provision or specialist setting
Confidence in leading or supporting PE-based activities
A trauma-informed and child-centred approach
Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships
Patience, resilience, and a passion for helping young people thrive
Relevant qualifications (e.g. Teaching Assistant Level 2/3, sports coaching awards) are desirable but not essential
