Are you passionate about using physical education to inspire and support young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Do you thrive in a setting where every day is different, and every breakthrough matters? Academics are currently looking for a dedicated Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to join a Alterntive Provision in Sittingbourne.

In this unique position, you will use PE, movement-based learning, and physical engagement to help children with SEN access the curriculum, regulate their emotions, and develop confidence in both academic and personal skills. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff to tailor learning experiences that meet the needs of each individual learner.

Responsibilities

  • Support children with a range of SEN, including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, and communication needs

  • Use PE and physical activities to enhance engagement and academic learning

  • Deliver small-group and 1:1 sessions that develop motor skills, focus, confidence, and wellbeing

  • Assist in implementing personalised learning plans and behaviour support strategies

  • Promote positive relationships and model emotional regulation

  • Help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment

  • Support PE lessons and lead adapted physical activities when required

  • Work collaboratively with the wider team to ensure consistent support for every learner

What We're Looking For

  • Experience working with children with SEN, especially in an alternative provision or specialist setting

  • Confidence in leading or supporting PE-based activities

  • A trauma-informed and child-centred approach

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships

  • Patience, resilience, and a passion for helping young people thrive

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Teaching Assistant Level 2/3, sports coaching awards) are desirable but not essential
