Preheat Engineering is seeking an experienced Machinist to join its established and busy workshop in Langley, Slough. This is a permanent, hands-on role within a precision engineering and manufacturing environment, ideal for a skilled machinist who takes pride in producing high-quality components and working to exacting standards.
The successful candidate will have strong practical experience with manual and CNC machinery, be confident reading engineering drawings, and bring a proactive, team-focused approach to their work.
The Role
You will be responsible for machining components accurately and efficiently, ensuring all work is completed to specification, on time, and to Preheat Engineering’s quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain manual lathes, CNC lathes (Fanuc controller), milling machines and bench drills
- Set up machines, select tooling and adjust settings to achieve required tolerances
- Use hand tools and precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, verniers, callipers and gauges
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and technical specifications
- Machine a range of materials, including metals, alloys and stainless steel
- Carry out quality checks on finished components to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Identify and resolve machining issues, making adjustments as required
- Undertake routine machine maintenance and report any faults promptly
- Manage workload effectively to meet production deadlines
- Work collaboratively with engineering and production teams
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop in line with health and safety requirements
Key Requirements
- Proven experience in an engineering manufacturing or machining environment
- Hands-on experience with manual lathes, CNC lathes (Fanuc), milling machines and bench drills
- Strong understanding of measurements, tolerances and thread forms
- Confident use of hand tools and precision measuring equipment
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Good time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks
- Reliable, punctual and flexible, with willingness to work overtime when required
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
