A respected school is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Head of Learning to join their team. This pivotal role involves developing and monitoring systems of guidance and support to ensure students maximise their achievement, remain safe, happy, and develop healthy lifestyles. The Head of Learning will oversee the pastoral development, wellbeing, and learning experiences of all students in a year group across all curriculum areas and will be responsible for a team of year tutors and other relevant personnel.

Day-to-day of the role:

Leadership and Management:

  • Demonstrate leadership aligned with the school's ethos and policies.
  • Implement intervention strategies to support student achievement.
  • Manage and develop behaviour strategies for students.
  • Communicate with parents and oversee year group rewards.
  • Conduct home visits for persistent absentees and maintain communication with hard-to-reach parents/carers.
  • Organise and support enrichment day activities and attend LA meetings to support NEET students.
  • Oversee student tracking systems and monitor interventions, rewards, and behaviour.

Pastoral Care and Academic Development:

  • Ensure completion of administrative tasks related to pastoral care and academic development.
  • Monitor assessment and reporting systems to support student progress.
  • Organise parental engagement events and liaise with staff regarding student progress and welfare.
  • Promote attendance and punctuality to achieve school targets.
  • Administer pastoral sanctions to reduce behavioural incidents.

Safeguarding and External Liaison:

  • Act as Deputy Safeguarding Lead for students in the year group.
  • Liaise with external agencies to support student development.
  • Complete Early Help assessments and support the smooth running of examinations.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with other Heads of Learning to share good practice.
  • Develop close links with feeder primary schools for smooth student transitions.
  • Provide guidance for option choices and support safeguarding concerns.

Impact on Educational Progress:

  • Establish a year ethos to drive improvement and raise achievement.
  • Monitor and evaluate assessment data to identify trends and implement intervention strategies.
  • Support form tutors with strategies to help students meet targets.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in Performance Management/Appraisal and conduct pastoral Learning Walks.
  • Provide feedback to tutors and ensure inclusion of all students.
  • Monitor the deployment of staff to ensure effective student learning.

Quality Assurance and Resource Management:

  • Implement modifications and improvements as needed.
  • Manage resources efficiently and ensure effective communication with parents and external bodies.

Teaching:

  • Carry out professional duties as a school teacher and deliver a broad, balanced curriculum.
  • Must be able to teach either English, DT (Design Technology), or Media.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience in an educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of pastoral care and academic development.
  • Experience in safeguarding and working with external agencies.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage and lead a team effectively.
