The Role
Vision for Education are working with secondary and alternative provision settings in South Shields to recruit a skilled and confident Maths Teaching Assistant. This full-time role, starting as soon as possible, involves delivering focused maths support to students who require additional help to access learning and make progress.

You will work 1:1 and with small groups, delivering tailored maths sessions, breaking down concepts, reinforcing key skills, and supporting learners who may have gaps in understanding or lack confidence in the subject. This role is ideal for someone with strong numeracy skills, experience in academic intervention, or a background in teaching support.

You will work closely with class teachers and pastoral teams to track progress, adapt learning activities, and help students re-engage positively with maths.

Please note: Experience supporting learners in an academic setting is highly desirable. Strong subject knowledge in maths is essential.

Requirements
The successful Maths Teaching Assistant will have:

  • Strong knowledge of KS3/KS4 maths topics

  • Experience supporting young people 1:1 or in small groups

  • The ability to explain mathematical concepts clearly and patiently

  • Good behaviour management and the ability to motivate reluctant learners

  • Excellent communication skills and a supportive, encouraging approach

  • A commitment to raising attainment and boosting pupil confidence
