Description
The key responsibilities for the Customs and Logistics Officer role are:
* Ensuring compliance with UK customs regulations* Support the Logistics dept. continuous growth and improvements to deliver better value to our clients* Act as a guru in the field of HM customs & Revenue to help support the company with our legal obligations to customs procedures* To provide support to Southampton Terminal with the Customs Inventory Link project which is planned to start in 2025* Assist Finance team with the Duty deferment account queries and act as a go between for our dept./finance/HMRC* Navigate and keep up to date with the latest HMRC requirements* To Support the Team with Export/Import work to generate more revenue for the company* Compliance and Risk Management: Monitor changes in customs regulations, update internal processes, and conduct regular audits* Liaison with Authorities: Maintain communication with HMRC and relevant authorities, facilitate customs inspections, and resolve issues during clearance.* Day-to-day logistics coordination for DSCS customers* Operational coordination, planning, and monitoring of services* Negotiation of freight costs and preparation of offers/tender responses* Maintaining positive customer relationships and promoting services* Preparing accurate and competitive quotations* Timely creation and processing of invoices* Supporting DSCS colleagues in multiple locations* Maintaining departmental profitability and quality customer services
Profile
The successful candidate for the Customs and Logistics Officer role is someone with the following:
* 3+ years of experience in Freight Forwarding/Import/Export* Min 5 years' experience in a customs clearance role* Excellent analytically skills and problem-solving capabilities* In-depth understanding of UK and international customs regulations, including tariff classification, valuation, and origin rules.* Ability to run a logistics job completely independent* Good negotiation skills* Positive attitude to work* Demonstrable ability to working under pressure and to tight deadlines.* Familiarity with customs software and electronic data interchange (EDI) systems
